Italian Affogato Recipe

This Affogato recipe is the easiest dessert to whip up when you're entertaining or want a sweet treat after dinner.

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 1 shot espresso
  • 1 tbsp nut liqueur
  • dark chocolate , for grating on top


  • Brew an espresso (one per person). Scoop 1-2 scoops of vanilla ice cream into a wide glass or bowl and pour over a shot of espresso.
  • Pour 1 tbsp of nocino nut liqueur or your liqueur of choice over the ice cream and grate over a little dark chocolate.


Tips For Making The Best Affogato Recipe;

  • Use espresso coffee (100% arabica is best) or 3-4 tbsp of strong brewed coffee
  • Use a high quality vanilla ice cream and keep it in the freezer for as long as possible. If using soft scoop/serve then keep it in until your coffee is ready if not take it out 5 mins before.
  • Use a nut based liqueur if possible the nuttiness goes really well with the coffee
  • Use a different flavoured ice cream or gelato if you don't have vanilla, hazelnut or tiramisu flavour would be so delicious!
  • You could add chopped nuts such as hazelnuts or an extra crunch
