Unlike Aperol or Campari, Select is a bitter aperitivo you’ve probably never heard of. It’s the bitter of choice in Venice and has such a delicious and unique taste.

It’s made with 30 different botanicals including rhubarb roots and juniper berries and is a delicious mix of sweet, citrus, floral and bitter all in one.

The classic way to enjoy Select is in spritz form (see our Select Spritz) but another fun way to enjoy it is to turn it into a mimosa with fresh orange juice and bubbly Prosecco.

See the full recipe below plus some delicious nibbles to enjoy with your drink. The best way to experience a true Italian aperitivo!

Ingredient notes and substitutions

  • Select – you’ll probably need to order this online (worth it in my opinion) or you may be able to find it in an Italian speciality store. See the photo of Select above.
  • Orange juice – I like to use smooth 100% orange juice. You can opt to use freshly squeezed orange juice but I recommend using a sieve to remove any ‘bits’. Make sure your orange juice is chilled.
  • Prosecco – make sure it’s nice and cold.
