How to make a Negroni Sbagliato. This Italian cocktail is known as an incorrect Negroni switching the gin for Prosecco. It's bitter, fruity, and bubbly and makes the perfect aperitivo served with nibbles!

If you're a fan of the classic Negroni cocktail you'll love this slightly less bitter and bubbly version.

It's thought that this drink was created when a bartender mistakenly used prosecco instead of gin. Sbagliato meaning wrong or incorrect in Italian.

Using prosecco makes the cocktail bubbly, a little fruity and less bitter, it's such a delicious, refreshing and fun twist on a classic and perfect served with some nibbles for an Italian aperitivo.

    Ingredients - what you need

To make a Negroni Sbagliato you need red vermouth (I use Martini Rosso but any will do), Campari and Prosecco. You'll also need fresh oranges either sliced or use the peel as garnish.

See the photo below that shows you all the ingredients you need!

    Recipe tips and FAQs

    • Stir it - make sure to stir your cocktail before serving to make sure everything is thoroughly mixed together. There's no need to use a cocktail shaker.
    • Ice - this drink is best served chilled so ice is a must.
    • Garnish - traditionally a twisted slice of orange peel is used to garnish the cocktail. You can so this or simply add a slice of freshly cut orange.
What type of glass should I use?

A short glass is best for this don't use a tall glass unless you are planning on adding a lot more prosecco.

How can I make it less bitter?

If the cocktail is too bitter for you then you can either reduce the amount of Campari that's added or add more prosecco.
