I call this The Sbagliato Rosso. It’s our fun and delicious twist on a classic Negroni Sbagliato but uses sparkling Lambrusco wine instead of Prosecco. It has the perfect mix of sweet and bitter flavours and it’s so easy to make.

I have a confession, I’m not a huge Campari fan (eek!). My husband loves it and a classic Negroni is his favourite cocktail whereas to me, I find it verrry bitter.

I prefer a Negroni Sbagliato which swaps the gin for Prosecco making it less potent and helps reduce the bitterness. But recently I’ve found something that I can say I truly love…The Sbagliato Rosso (that’s what I’m calling it anyway).

Instead of Prosecco, I’m using Lambrusco which is a sparkling red wine from Emilia Romagna.

Lambrusco has flavours of cherries, wild strawberries and raspberries with occasional floral and cranberry notes and it goes perfectly in this cocktail.

You can buy Lambrusco from a light rosè colour to deep red (most common) and Dolce or Secco varieties. We’re using a sweet Lambrusco (dolce) but a dry one will also work.

Food to serve with your cocktail

I always love to serve little bites to eat when I’m serving cocktails. This can be as simple as some crisps (chips), nuts or marinated olives.

Taralli always hit the spot (they’re addictively delicious) as do some Parmigiano cookies.

If you’re having an Apericena (dinner with lots of nibbles) why not try Sicilian Sfincione (a thick pizza focaccia) or Rustici Leccesi (tomato and cheese stuffed puff pastry bites).

Yum! I love me a Negroni or a Negroni Sbagliato, but this also sounds delicious. And the color is absolutely gorgeous.
